5 Reasons You Need a REALTOR

  1. A real estate transaction is complicated. In most cases, buying or selling a home requires disclosure forms, inspection reports, mortgage documents, insurance policies, deeds, and multi-page government-mandated settlement statements. A knowledgeable guide through this complexity can help you avoid delays or costly mistakes.
  2. Selling or buying a home is time consuming. Even in a strong market, homes in our area stay on the market for an average of ____ days. And it usually takes another 60 days or so for the transaction to close after an offer is accepted.
  3. Real estate has its own language. If you don ́t know a CMA from a PUD, you can understand why it ́s important to work with someone who speaks that language.
  4. REALTORS have done it before. Most people buy and sell only a few homes in a lifetime, usually with quite a few years in between each purchase. And even if you ́ve done it before, laws and regulations change. That ́s why having an expert on your side is critical.
  5. REALTORS provide objectivity. Since a home often symbolizes family, rest, and security, not just four walls and roof, homeselling or buying is often a very emotional undertaking. And for most people, a home is the biggest purchase they ́ll ever make. Having a concerned, but objective, third party helps you keep focused on both the business and emotional issues most important to you.
  6. REALTORS are members of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS, a trade organization of more than 1 million members nationwide. REALTORS subscribe to a stringent code of ethics that helps guarantee the highest level of service and integrity.

Nothing Like A Deer Encounter and Breathing in Redwood Air in Saratoga

Nothing Like A Deer Encounter and Breathing in Redwood Air in Saratoga

by Saratoga REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe

When a person truly seeks physical, mental and spiritual refreshment, there’s nothing like seeing deer, listening to babbling waterfalls and breathing in the aroma of the majestic redwoods at Sanborn County Park in Saratoga.

Sanborn Park Saratoga
While visiting
Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park in Felton or Muir Woods in Mill Valley near San Francisco are both wonderful, those trips take a lot more travel time for Santa Clara County residents than the ten minute drive from downtown Saratoga to Sanborn County Park.

With over 15 miles of hiking trails, along with fishing, picnicking and camping, Sanborn remains an easily accessible way for Silicon Valley residents and visitors to enjoy the refreshment of nature and the redwoods closer to home.

Sanborn Park is also home to the Youth Science Institute, summer Shakespeare performances and is even available to reserve for memorable outdoor weddings.

Michelle Carr Crowe’s 5 Unique Unusual Facts from February 15

By Cupertino REALTOR® Michelle Carr Crowe

Are you like me and enjoy learning new facts from history? Here are 5 unusual true facts from history for February 15. (Look for a separate blog with 5 trivia questions from Feb. 15, too). How many of these facts did you know before reading this blog post?

5 Unusual Facts from February 15

·         1493 – While on board the Niña, Christopher Columbus writes an open letter (widely distributed upon his return to Portugal) describing his discoveries and the unexpected items he came across in the New World.

Balto statue Michelle Carr Crowe blog image·         1925 – The 1925 Serum Run to Nome. Also known as the Great Race of Mercy“, the serum run was a transport of diphtheria antitoxin by dog sled relay across the U.S. territory of Alaska by 20 mushers and about 150 sled dogs covering 674 miles in five and a half days, saving the people of the small city of Nome and the surrounding communities from an incipient epidemic. The serum arrived in Nome, Alaska, with Balto as the lead dog of the last team.

Both mushers and their dog teams became heroes as the world followed the progress of the “Great Race of Mercy” in both radio and newspapers across the United States. Balto, the lead sled dog on the final stretch into Nome, became the most famous canine celebrity of the era (after Rin Tin Tin). His statue remains a popular tourist attraction in New York City‘s Central Park. The publicity from the serum run helped spur an inoculation campaign in the U.S. that dramatically reduced the threat of diphtheria.

The sled dog was the primary means of transportation and communication in subarctic communities around the world, The event is remembered and immortalized annually with the popular Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

·          1942  World War II: Fall of Singapore. Following an assault by Japanese forces, the British General Arthur Percival surrenders. About 80,000 Indian, United Kingdom and Australian soldiers become prisoners of war, the largest surrender of British-led military personnel in history.

·         1946  ENIAC, the first electronic general-purpose computer, is formally dedicated at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

·         1949  Gerald Lankester Harding and Roland de Vaux begin excavations at Cave 1 of the Qumran Caves, where they will eventually discover the first seven Dead Sea Scrolls.

·         1954 – Canada and the United States agree to construct the Distant Early Warning Line, a system of radar stations in the far northern Arctic regions of Canada and Alaska.

·         1972  Sound recordings are granted U.S. federal copyright protection for the first time.

·         2001 – The first draft of the complete human genome is published in Nature. This momentous event mapping the human genome actually occurred earlier than expected.
